Dating Apps for Men: Why Good Men Feel Invisible

Online dating for men who are genuinely looking for a relationship can be frustrating. It can feel like you are putting yourself out there and getting little or no response.

If this is happening to you, one reason may have less to do with you and more to do with the process of online dating.

Many single women—especially those who are very attractive, can receive a steady stream of likes, smiles, waves, and messages. Sorting through all of that attention can become overwhelming. When a woman has dozens of men trying to get her attention, simply sending another like may not be enough to stand out.

Another common mistake is coming on too strong too quickly. A man may see a woman he finds attractive and immediately send multiple messages, compliments, or signals of strong interest before they have even had a conversation. What feels enthusiastic to him can feel like pressure to her.

The Strategy: Shift Your Focus

Be more selective with your attention. Don't send likes, waves, smiles, or other signals of interest to every woman you find attractive. Being pretty is not enough reason to pursue a match.

Look beyond the photos. Read her profile. Look for women who genuinely fit your lifestyle, interests, values, and relationship goals—and who you are genuinely attracted to. Ask yourself whether you can realistically see the two of you in a relationship.

Be realistic about mutual compatibility. That doesn't mean lowering your standards or assuming you aren't good enough. It means looking for mutual compatibility, rather than chasing a woman simply because of a picture.

A single thoughtful like or tailored message sent to the right woman is far more useful than sending dozens of likes to women who aren't truly compatible with you.

Dating apps work best when you stop trying to get everyone's attention and start focusing on finding the right person's attention.
